| Community Education
Programs |
As part of our
community outreach efforts, the Council conducts a variety of
activities to promote public awareness of child abuse and its
prevention. Council staff are available to provide trainings,
consultations, and presentations to schools, community groups, and
professionals, including state required trainings for Daycare
Providers and Pre-School Teachers. Council staff and volunteers
often participate in community-wide workshops and health fairs
providing important information on parenting and child abuse related
issues. During 2005, 111 presentations were made throughout
the area.
A variety of free educational print materials are
available for distribution to schools, groups, or individuals.
Special emphasis on material distribution occurs during the month of
April, which is National Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Training and
Consultation:
|
Training and
workshop presentations or consultations can be scheduled through the
Council office. Staff are available to do presentations on child
abuse/neglect topics and related parent/child issues. Certified
professional staff can provide the state-mandated six hour and three
hour review courses to Daycare Centers and Pre-Schools.

These bookmark cards
are available in large quantities to distribute to all students.
Schools are encouraged to staple this bookmark to each student's
report card to provide tips for parents to remember when reviewing
report cards with their children. Report Card time can trigger
inappropriate responses which may take the form of physical action,
psychological punishment, or verbal abuse. The reflex response is
usually spontaneous, often harsh, and varies in duration. These
bookmarks remind parents to use report cards as an opportunity to
praise and encourage academic achievement and progress.

Each year in April,
which is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, the Council holds
its annual Blue Ribbon Campaign to promote child abuse prevention
awareness. Wearing these blue ribbon lapel pins demonstrates
compassion for children who have experienced abuse and/or neglect as
well as support for parents, educators, social workers, nurses,
counselors, and researchers who seek effective ways of ending the
cycle of child abuse.
